Why We Are Happy ? – Dan Gilbert

Inspirational By 10/14/2015 No Comments

“We should have preferences that lead us into one future over another. But when those preferences drive us too hard and too fast because we have overrated the difference between these futures, we are at risk. When our ambition is bounded, it leads us to work joyfully. When our ambition is unbounded, it leads us to lie, to cheat, to steal, to hurt others, to sacrifice things of real value. When our fears are bounded,we’re prudent, we’re cautious, we’re thoughtful. When our fears are unbounded and overblown, we’re reckless, and we’re cowardly.

Our longings and our worries are both to some degree overblown, because we have within us the capacity to manufacture the very commodity we are constantly chasing when we choose experience.”

Nature. Beauty. Gratitude. – Louie Schwartzberg

“You think this is just another day in your life? It’s not just another day. It’s the one day that is given to you today. It’s given to you. It’s a gift. It’s the only gift that you have right now, and the only appropriate response is gratefulness. If you do nothing else but to cultivate that response to the great gift that this unique day is, if you learn to respond as if it were the first day in your life and the very last day, then you will have spent this day very well.

Begin by opening your eyes and be surprised that you have eyes you can open,

A kinder, gentler philosophy of success – Alain de Botton

Inspirational By 10/14/2015 No Comments

“Our ideas of what it would mean to live successfully are not our own. They’re sucked in from other people; chiefly, if you’re a man, your father, and if you’re a woman, your mother. Psychoanalysis has been drumming home this message for about 80 years. No one’s quite listening hard enough, but I very much believe it’s true.

To Win

Inspirational By 10/14/2015 No Comments

“Sometimes I think the Fates must grin as we denounce them and insist the only reason we can’t win, is the Fates themselves have missed. Yet there lives on the ancient claim: we win or lose within ourselves. The shining trophies on our shelves can never win tomorrow’s game. You and I know deeper down, there’s always a chance to win the crown. But when we fail to give our best, we simply haven’t met the test, of giving all and saving none until the game is really won; of showing what is meant by grit; of playing through when others quit; of playing through, not letting up. It’s bearing down that wins the cup. Of dreaming there’s a goal ahead; of hoping when our dreams are dead;of praying when our hopes have fled; yet losing, not afraid to fall, if, bravely, we have given all. For who can ask more of a man than giving all within his span. Giving all, it seems to me, is not so far from victory. And so the Fates are seldom wrong, no matter how they twist and wind. It’s you and I who make our fates — we open up or close the gates on the road ahead or the road behind.”

The Difference Between Winning and Succeeding

Inspirational By 10/14/2015 No Comments

John Wooden, affectionately known as Coach, led UCLA to record wins that are still unmatched in the world of basketball. Throughout his long life, he shared the values and life lessons he passed to his players, emphasizing success that’s about much more than winning.

“Never try to be better than someone else, always learn from others. Never cease trying to be the best you can be — that’s under your control. If you get too engrossed and involved and concerned in regard to the things over which you have no control, it will adversely affect the things over which you have control.

I coined my own definition of success, which is: Peace of mind attained only through self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do the best of which you’re capable. I believe that’s true. If you make the effort to do the best of which you’re capable, trying to improve the situation that exists for you, I think that’s success,

How to speak so that people want to listen ? – Julian Treasure

Inspirational By 10/14/2015 No Comments

“The human voice: It’s the instrument we all play. It’s the most powerful sound in the world, probably. It’s the only one that can start a war or say “I love you.”

If you want your speech that you do with this voice to  make change in the world, avoid seven deadly sins of speaking: Gossip, Judging, Negativity, Complaining, Excuses, Embroidery/Exaggeration, Dogmatism (confusion of facts with opinions).

Instead of those, stand on these: Honesty, Authenticity (being yourself), Integrity (being your word, actually doing what you say), Love (wishing people well)”
